Student Success Program

Success Scholars

Goals. Habits. Growth.

The Student Success Program is designed to help students who could benefit from additional academic and/or social emotional support. Through the various program offerings, students develop college and career readiness skills, strength of character, and a sense of purpose that propels them toward success.

Student Success Program Goals

1. Scholars will become self-reliant; they will have a strong sense of financial and social independence.

2. Scholars will effectively navigate relationships and resources, with the goal of ultimately contributing positively to the greater good of the Burr and Burton community and society as a whole.

3.Scholars will develop a sense of self-worth through the process of setting and realizing personal and professional goals.

In the Success community, it doesn't matter what kind of status you have--everyone is equal, kind, and considerate. It's focused on you and your success in high school. You don't get lost in the crowd.

  • Prep for Success

    9th grade Success scholars, particularly those who are first generation college-bound, develop a future vision for themselves and set academic goals; build relationships and an ability to self-advocate; establish strong character and habits of mind, and strengthen organizational and planning skills necessary to achieve goals and complete work independently.   • Introduction to College and Careers

    This course is co-sponsored by the Community College of Vermont (CCV).                                                                                                              
    Introduction to College and Careers is an online class designed to engage students in thinking about learning and education and the role these play in achieving personal and career goals. The college-level readings and assignments focus on strengthening skills in civil discourse, critical thinking, and interactive discussion.   • Applying to College: Senior Workshop

    This class is designed to help first generation college-bound students complete their college applications in the fall of their senior year. Sustained work on the college essay, the Common Application, and FAFSA form preparation helps keep students on track through the critical fall months. Students also engage in scholarship research and scholarship application completion processes that help make college more affordable. Please see the full course description in the Course of Study.
