    Dear BBA Families:

    In 2021, the Vermont legislature passed a law requiring all schools to test for radon (see Section 12 of Act 72 2021)).
  • Behind the Art Scene with Lily LaRue '25 and Willa Seo '26

    Last Friday, 600 people filled SVAC’s Wilson Gallery, currently home to art work from local pre-k through 12th grade students. Anharad Llewellyn, an art teacher here at BBA, hopes everyone finds some time to view the exhibit before it’s closes on May 4th. Entry will be free and open to the public up until then!

    Llewelyn states, “One of the aspects I am most proud of is the diversity that we bring from the Visual Arts Department.” In this year's show you will encounter drawing, painting, mixed media, ceramics, photography, woodworking and creative design projects.

  • Join Senators Bongartz and Plunkett for an important discussion on preserving our local education options

    The community is invited to attend a crucial meeting on Monday, March 31st at 5:30 PM at the Riley Center at Burr and Burton Academy in Manchester. Senators Seth Bongartz and Rob Plunkett will host this meeting focused on the future of Vermont’s education system and the efforts to protect local school choice.

  • Congratulations to J Lahue, winner of this year's Sanders State of the Union Essay Contest

    Senator Sanders' office announced yesterday that J Lahue '26 is the first place winner of the annual Senator Sanders State of the Union Essay Contest. Lahue won first place for his essay on the effects of social media on adolescents' mental health. Lahue was excited to hear the news: "I was inspired to enter this contest as I felt and saw the effects of social media around me in my community. It’s so common to talk about mental health, but I feel as though we tend to ignore possible causes — especially social media."

  • Congratulations to Tom von Allmen on National Board Certification and work on a new blended learning course for teachers

    For the past two years, in addition to teaching social studies courses and Model UN, leading Model UN trips, and coaching the varsity Ultimate team, Tom von Allmen has also been hard at work on National Board Certification. 

    National Board Certification is a voluntary, advanced teaching credential that recognizes accomplished educators based on their expertise and effectiveness. The process is rigorous and involves creating a portfolio of student work, video recordings of teaching, written reflection,and a series of assessments that test content knowledge.

  • BBA Mountain Campus Offers Four New Experiential Courses

    Building on momentum from a fall semester where more than 400 students participated in orientation, leadership retreats, and other experiential coursework, the BBA Mountain Campus is excited to offer four, two-credit, double-block integrative learning courses that will be hosted at the Peru campus during the 2025-25 school year. An immersive, four-credit semester program will be offered in the 2026-27 school year.

    Congratulations to Burr and Burton's three Vermont Presidential Scholars, Vincy Chan, Jackson Kitts, and Emma Southworth! The Vermont Presidential Scholars award recognizes outstanding students who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, academic achievement, and commitment to their communities. Vincy Chan ‘25 and Jackson Kitts ‘25 were awarded in the general category and Emma Southworth ‘25 received honorable mention in the arts category.

    Join the BBA Performing Arts and English departments for an evening performance of students sharing their original choreography, scenes, monologues, poetry, and scripts in a workshop atmosphere.     Who likes pancakes and good causes? Success is hosting a pancake breakfast! This Saturday, January 25th there will be a Success Pancake Breakfast in the Student Center from 8:00 - 11:00 am.     Congratulations to Kobi Addington for special recognition by the All New England Solo & Ensemble Music Festival for his Jazz Piano audition. He was nominated from over 1,000 students who auditioned for a truly outstanding musical performance. Kobi will be representing BBA at the March 2025 Festival hosted by Middletown High School in CT.

  • Winter Film Fest to benefit Rock Climbing Team and Protect Our Winters

    On Thursday, February 6th, at 7pm, The BBA Rock Climbing team and The Mountain Goat, will present "Winter Film Fest". This event will take place in the Riley Center and will feature a number of short films about winter sports and climate change. There is a suggested $10 donation to benefit the Rock Climbing team and Protect Our Winters. There will also be baked goods for purchase. Please come out and watch some cool films and help out the team!
