Dual Enrollment

With the 2013 passage of the Flexible Pathways bill, Vermont’s dual enrollment program allows eligible Vermont high school students to take two tuition-free college courses in their junior and/or senior year. Dual enrollment opportunities include summer courses and online courses, in addition to courses on a college campus. The college professor assesses student work, and grades are reported on both the Burr and Burton and the college transcript. Students are subject to the policies and procedures of the sponsoring college or university.

    In an interdisciplinary approach, theories of conflict resolution are introduced and then explored through a number of different prisms. These include the nature of peace, the Arab-Israeli Conflict, the Bible, Rock and Roll, the arts, and the environment. The course culminates during its last two sessions with students sharing and discussing their own personal conflict resolution philosophy and statements.
  • DE Digital Filmmaking I - CCV

    Community College of Vermont for FLM-1050: Digital Filmmaking I.  This is available as part of the regularly-scheduled class and requires no additional outside work.  These credits can be transferred to other colleges and look great on college applications!

    In this hands-on course, students are introduced to the basics of filmmaking. Students gain basic skills through technical exercises and then create short film projects. Topics include script development, pre-production planning, directing, lighting, cinematography, sound recording and editing. Practice exercises and film analysis will supplement student film projects.

    1. Demonstrate proficiency in the use and vocabulary of camera, lighting, sound recording, and editing skills through short exercises.

    2. Develop story ideas and draft scripts for short films, focusing principles and practices of story development for various short-form filmmaking (commercial, public service announcements, experimental, narrative, documentary).

    3. Apply skills of filmmaking, including camera work, lighting, sound recording, and editing by creating compelling and professionally executed short films.

    4. Demonstrate ability to analyze and critique short films in historical, social, and/or cultural contexts.

Dual enrollment opportunities include summer courses and online courses, in addition to courses on a college campus. The college professor assesses student work, and grades are reported on both the Burr and Burton and college transcript. Students are subject to the policies and procedures of the sponsoring college or university. At Burr and Burton, dual enrollment courses, unless taught by Burr and Burton faculty, fulfill elective credit, supplementing but not replacing Burr and Burton core academic courses. Students must be juniors or seniors with a 3.0 or higher GPA, and must fully complete dual enrollment courses with a B or higher in order to take another.
