activitiesStudent activities outside the classroom are an important part of the Burr and Burton experience and there are a variety of ways students can pursue their interests. Among the options are sixteen varsity sports, musical and dramatic presentations, student government, and leadership and service opportunities.

The Student Council provides opportunities for leadership and the exercise of decision-making skills. The council also coordinates a number of student social events. The Freshman Mentor program gives selected students the chance to develop leadership and team-building skills in activities that strengthen the school's sense of community. The Green Mountain Teen Institute offers students the chance to get together with students from all over the state to discuss issues of importance to young people.

After-class activities include a variety of physical, intellectual and artistic pursuits. Students can join clubs devoted to pumping iron, contacting other countries by ham radio, riding mountain bikes through rough terrain, a capella singing, or mastering the skills of theatrical lighting and sound technology. There are also many ways to take advantage of the school's unique Vermont setting including ski clubs, climbing clubs, and the Outing Club.

Students with literary tastes may join the staff Between Ranges, the annual literary and arts magazine. All activities receive the support of a faculty member who serves as the activity's coordinator. Students are also encouraged to start their own group or club devoted to an interest they may share with their fellow students.
